Funny bit to share with you all.
And it deals with LotR also!
My little "rating" as novice warrior...it totally fits now! Just today, I was FINALLY able to use my long bow! The replica from the movies...I got it for my birthday in AUGUST, but the injury to my hand made it impossible for archery.
The draw was simply too strong for a while after the hand started to heal, and I still feel a twinge when I fully draw (well, fully to the extent of my arm strength!) the bow.
But it is amazingly powerful and even the replica arrows are rather accurate. They don't lie when they say you can use these bows for hunting. The power behind the arrow, even with half drawing it, is intense.
Thought I'd share...I'm wending my way toward becoming a good archer. I'm accurate now, but I want to be MORE accurate! AND be able to bury the arrow deeper, which requires strength I guess!
Hehe...that explains my little signature on every post, at the VERY bottom. I'm not just writing that cuse I like Legolas!

Nifty. If you ever want to go anywhere to drop off some jewelry, you have my sword (well. . . épée, but it's a good one!).

And my axe...when I get one...and learn how to use it effectively...hmm, I may not actually be much of a help fighting wise, but I'm very good at standing there and looking pretty. ;D

ROTFLMAO....You two are hilarious! If ever I am in need of a sword and/or an axe, I shall call upon you to fulfill your promise!
And Joee, I'm sure you will wield your axe like a pro after watching the trilogy enough times studying Gimli! (Not that I'm suggesting you will do that, but heck, it might give you pointers.)
And a side note...I have a Legolas and Gimli movie poster and you know what? They drew Legolas holding his bow drawn, BUT he has his fingers WRAPPED around the bowstring to hold the arrow in place. Can we say, I DON'T THINK SO! That's just artistic license I believe!

Someday we have to go shooting Gwenn.
I've been archery hunting since I was about 8 years old. I shoot both long bow and recurve.
I've even trained myself to shoot sitting on the ground using my feet. Now I'd like to see an elf try that lol.

*dies of shock*
Shoot with your FEET? OMGosh...that is awesome. I wouldn't be able to do that with this bow, unless I held it like a cross bow, it's taller than I am!
I would love to come shoot with you. Prob...you're in like Arizona, aren't you!?

Yep in good old Az, and we'd love to have you anytime. And your right you do have to shoot it like a crossbow but you would be amazed how accurate your toes can be lol. My whole family shoots bows, it's sorta a family tradition and has been passed down from generation to generation. We taught our son to shoot at the age of 9 and he loves it. Some day I would like to actually compete. That would be so cool.

If I'm ever down/over your way, I'd love to learn some more archery from you! I've competed in .22 caliber rifle shoots, open iron sights because I don't like scopes or peep sights. That's a lot of fun too! I started when I was about 12, perhaps 11, going to shoots with my father. I was the smallest person there and the woods walk event was difficult because I could SEE half the targets, being so short! But I had a great time every time!
Having archery as a family tradition sounds wonderful. Your son is lucky you taught him so young. Learning things like archery, target shooting, even the martial arts, at a young age is wonderful.
I only wish I had begun Tae Kwon Do when I had started becoming interested in it...around 10 years old! I didn't persuade my parents to let me until I was 15.
Ah well, I'll be testing for 3rd dan in about 2 years. I've already been a black belt for...uhm...3 years...Wow, how time passes!

Cool I also do target shooting but my guns of choice is the 357 magnum Rossy and a Ruger gp 161 357 mag handguns plus a mosberg 500a persuader 12 guage pump 18 n a quarter inch barrel not exaclty the kind one might use in competition. Although for desert target shooting they work really nice. We also taught my son at a young age about responsible shooting and at the age of 12 enrolled him in a youth hunters safety education course. I believe if you have guns in the household you should own a gunsafe, gunlocks and make sure your kid understands what they can will do. It's better to be safe then sorry. And I know I sound like some kind of weapons freak but I can assure you i am not. lol

Nah...I'm not worried about you being a gun freak! I love weapons...nunchucka, swords, knives, guns, bows, heck, even short sticks! All are so much fun to learn to properly yield!
When I was between 12 and 15, I attended Department of Environmental Conservation camps and took hunter safety courses through them. They also licensed you for small game hunting, though I do not usually hunt. I can't kill for no reason...food only!

Oh I agree with you there. Now i'm not knocking people who hunt for only sport, to each his or her own. I however could never kill anything just for the pleasure of making the bag, or to hang above the fireplace. I have never actually killed a living thing myself (unless you count the bird I accidentally shot, I didn't think I'd actually hit it)) but the rest of my family has. Hunting for food only, no trophy hunters in my family. I will indulge however on their bagged game. I love a good venison steak. I would rather just go along for the ride and shoot at our styrofoam deer hiding outside of camp lol. ;D p.s. congrads on the promotion. either I need to talk more or you talk to much lol. j/k gwenn ya know i love ya lmao

I have always wanted to learn archery, but my family doesn't let me around sharp objects J/K, actually they think that I don't need to learn and the only reason I want to is because of Legolas. Maybe one of you guys can teach me. Hey Carol I was born in Arizona, maybe I should visit my home State. ;D
