Whew...I was a bit worried there! I too have been having difficulty. I think I need a fic challenge that is a little easier for my no-where-near-Tolkien-scholar self. Something...that involves Aragorn, Legolas, and company....
Any ideas you guys?
I already entered the Teitho Contest on MC, so that's out.

How about an adventure with Legolas, Aragorn and Beorn? Who is Beorn? Maybe I could do that if I knew!!! (Thanks for the plot bunnies, Karri!)

Beorn is the skin-changer who dwelt in the Vales of Anduin near the western eaves of Mirkwood, who could take the form of a Man or a huge black bear. He played a great part in the victory over the Goblins at the Battle of Five Armies. He gave Bilbo and company shelter and guidence in "The Hobbit" Beorn lived with many animals who were trained to do tasks around the house. You can read of Beorn in the chapter entitled "Queer Lodgings" on pages 117-138 of "The Hobbit."
I'm sure Karri or someone will come up with a better explanation than me though

I'm sure Karri or someone will come up with a better explanation than me though Nope, that pretty well covers it. Here are some quotes, though: "He changes his skin; sometimes he is a huge black bear, sometimes he is a great strong black-haired man with huge arms and a great beard. I cannot tell you much more, though that ought to be enough. Some say that he is a bear descended from the great and ancient bears of the mountains that lived there before the giants came. Others say that he is a man descended from the first men who lived before Smaug or the other dragons came into this part of the world, and before the goblins came into the hills out of the North. I cannot say, though I fancy the last is the true tale. He is not the sort of person to ask questions of." "He lives in an oak-wood and has a great wooden house; and as a man he keeps cattle and horses which are nearly as marvellous as himself. They work for him and talk to him. He does not eat them; neither does he hunt or eat wild animals. He keeps hives and hives of great fierce bees, and lives most on cream and honey. As a bear he ranges far and wide. I once saw him sitting all alone on the top of the Carrock at night watching the moon sinking towards the Misty Mountains, and I heard him growl in the tongue of bears; "The day will come when they will perish and I shall go back!" That is why I believe he once came from the mountains himself." --The Hobbit, Chapter VII - Queer Lodgings“Anyway by mid-winter Gandalf and Bilbo had come all the way back, along both edges of the forest, to the doors of Beorn's house; and there for a while they both stayed. Yule-tide was warm and merry there; and men came from far and wide to feast at Beorn's bidding. The goblins of the Misty Mountains were now few and terrified, and hidden in the deepest wholes they could find; and the Wargs had vanished from the woods, so that men went abroad without fear. Beorn indeed became a great chief afterwards in those regions and ruled a wide land between the mountains and the wood; and it is said that for many generations the men of his line had the power of taking bear's shape, and some were grim men and bad, but most were in heart like Beorn, if less in size and strength.” -- The Hobbit, Chapter XVIII – The Return Journey

Gwenneth, Getting a response to a challenge is so difficult that I usually post them in more than one place to improve the odds. So you might consider also posting this at the MC group and groups.yahoo.com/group/TheFellowshipFollowers/ .
