Hi folks,
Here's one spawned by daw's mentions of acorn edibility during the Wood-elf culture conversation (down in the Through the King's Great Gate Category.)
Exotic Foods Challenge Write a brief tale in which an individual(s) from one culture discovers that a food not generally considered edible (in their own culture) is quite tasty if properly prepared (by an individual from another culture.) (The individuals may be from cultures as similar as Elves of the Valley verses Elves of the Wood, or as dissimilar as Hobbits verses Gondorians.

I like this one. I'm rolling the idea around in my head to see if I can get a germ of a story line going.
A "wheat germ" of story line, that is. ;D

LOL, LKK. Do you think Elves had the idea of "health food"? That strikes me as so funny.
Actually, I was thinking the other day that they probably had no sugar and no chocolate. First, no wonder they stayed thin. And second, how did they keep sane??

And second, how did they keep sane?? Honey combs and lots of Dorwinian. (Then again, perhaps this explains all that unseemingly orc-aggression.)

Every time I think how wonderful it would be to live in M.E., I remember that chocolate is a South American invention and would be unknown and unavailable to the peoples of M.E. And then I rethink the idea of living there. At least on a permanent basis, at any rate.

As herald for the potato state, I bid you all good tidings, and remind you all that the potato -- a round white tuber with a thin skin, which is cooked and eaten as a vegetable in exotic places such as Bree, Buckland, and the Shire – is also a native of the New World and was brought back to Europe on the same boat as the other amazing New World discoveries, such as chocolate and tomatoes. Hence, if they had potatoes, they had chocolate.

Hence, if they had potatoes, they had chocolate Well then, that makes everything much better. I would actually consider a trip to middle-earth if that were the case...then again, the second I saw a giant spider, I would be right back home again, lol. And Karri, where are you finding all of these neat smileys? This one seems to remind me of Gollum. He's trying so hard to be good, but just has to eat the poor bunny.

Oh. Chocolate might possibly be found in Middle Earth after all? Karri, you are a genius. M.E. is saved! I like that icon, too. It reminds me of feeding a bunny to a plot critter.

And Karri, where are you finding all of these neat smileys? This one seems to remind me of Gollum. LOL! In the case of this smiley, I did a Google search on "Chocolate Smiley". 'Tis amazing what a net search can turn up. I should qualify my statement a bit, though. Hence, if they had potatoes, they had the possibility of chocolate. Whether or not they had amenable trade relations with the places that had a cocoa-suited climate is another question altogether. Hmmm….has the makings of a new challenge, doesn’t it?

I think that if I would go to Middle Earth, I would just bring chocolate with me. How long it would last I don't know but that is what I would do. Unless we all move to ME and start our own business by growing coco plants and making our own chocolate and then end up taking over all of ME! :oWhoa! That was weird, I just got a little carried away. I guess I had to much chocolate today.
