VENTING WARNING...I AM VENTING...
Scenario: My fiance drives a Mustang...classic sports car. He was following me home, driving about 2 miles over the speed limit just like I...not doing anything different AT ALL. I turn into the driveway of our house, he continues toward gas station, no difference. HE GETS PULLED OVER!!! What the (&&%^() !!!
That is totally unfair. I swear, if he gets a ticket for tailgating, I will SHOW UP in that darned court and tell those ass BLEEP's that he was NOT tailgating. IIII was the one in front of him and I think I'd KNOW if he WAS!
I'll sign papers, swear on the Bible whatever. This is totally unfair. Cops pick out sports cars. Eric is a responsible driver, had ONE speeding ticket in his life...not bad for a 27 year old male with a sports car. He has never had an accident, nothing of the sort. BUT he drives a sports car...cop fantasy.
I know they have ticket quotas they scramble to meet at the end of the month. That's a likely reason...it's almost Dec.
I think it is totally unfair and I am DYING to do an investigative journalism piece on the phenominon of sports cars getting tickets vs. regular. Oh oh...he's home...gotta jet.

I have been told that police often due target sports cars, though I do not have one to test the theory with. That is a bummer way to go into the holiday.

Oh that sucks. I always thought that they targeted sports cars but I have no evidence to back that up with, except that fact that the majority of cars that I see pulled over are sports cars.
If you don't mind me asking, what did the ticket end up eing for?

Okay, I'm not trying to defend a cop who pulls a sports car over just for the heck of it, but I am feinds with numerous cops and thier wives so I have a small insite into a few reason.
Sports cars believe it or not, or one of the most popular vehicles stolen for simple reasons.
Some car thieves want a vehicle that will give them speed, for either racing, or to make a quick getaway.
They think they are cool while driving around in it.
But most important because of the parts. Most owners take such pride in thier vehicles, they keep them in mint condition and the parts are very expensive. A thief can make big bucks, from stripping ,and reselling the parts. Especially here in the states. We have to special order parts for ours from Britian, which is not only expensive, but takes a long time, and has to be done through a speciality shop, so tack on some more cash for that.
I am not saying some or not pulled over out of jelousy, or to make a quota, but most of the time it is for other reasons.
Being the owner of a 1961 Austin Healy Bug-Eyed Sprite, I would not mind being pulled over if I have done nothing wrong, if it means that a car thief would have the same pleasure.
Atleast, that way I would stand a chance on getting it back faster, and in one peice. After all with since only 100 of them were ever built, it's not like I can afford to replace it, or would have a easy time finding another.
I hope that he didnt get a ticket for something stupid, or that he didn't do, but sometimes a little inconveniece is worth more them you think.

Carol has a very good point. I too know a number of police officers, from troopers and highway patrol to senior investigators. They say they pull over sports cars for much less of a reason than other cars.
For instance...tailgating. They pull over the sports car when often times they will leave alone the others. Same for speeding. If a sports car speeds by followed equally as fast by a hatchback...it's the sports car that gets the pullover.
But Carol's point about the stolen vehicles is wonderful. It was 11:30 at night and the officer said he thought Eric was drunk. When he found out he was tailgating his fiance, he was a little sorry he'd pulled himi over. Turns out, Eric didn't get the tailgating ticket, instead he got two tickets because when the cop ran his plates Eric's registration had not be updated to our new address, nor had his license. Those are both ticket meritable. He has to appear in village court with proof that he has reregistered the car with the proper address and that he has changed his address on the license.
The traffic stop...100feet from our driveway...took 45 minutes. Now, I understand that there is a lot to write on the ticket, but Eric said the cop asked MANY multitudes of questions, walked around the car a couple of times etc...
Perhaps he thought it was stolen...I don't know...but man 45 minutes is a long time and know what really gets me, and I know many cops who speed...but the minute he was finished and ready to drive off, the cop FLOORED it, revved the engine and drove...duh duh duh duhnnnnnn...to their station house up the road! What a reason to rush...I don't know...I was pissed and am still a little perturbed.
But again, the stolen car bit is a good thing. But knowing sports car owners and cops...they all admit that sports cars are "cop magnets". The senior investigator I know told a woman in our TKD school who bought a Mustang..."Ah, a cop magnet..." the minute he saw it!!!
Ok...me done!!

I'm glad Eric didn't get a ticket for tailgating, Gwenneth. I bet he goes out and updates his license & registration information now. What an expensive way to get a reminder to do so. Carol and you have good points about the stolen car. I hadn't really thought about it. But I'm glad that the cops are checking for stolen vehicles too. I just hope I never get stopped and have to endure the checking process!
